NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department and DA’s office announced that 11 members of a street gang known as the 6th Ward D-Block have been indicted. The gang is implicated in a series of robberies, shootings, and attempted murders.
Those indicted were Lance Prince, 25, Shelton Jackson, 26, Marquin Lewis, 21, Blake Ricks, 21, Nathaniel Brown, 19, Oran Duhon, 20, Darnell Ellis, 20, Jamal Howard, 26, Terrell Muse, 17, Cecil Martin, 19, and Glynn McCormick, 24.
Ten men are in custody, and one member, Darnell Ellis, is still at large, according to police.
The announcement of the arrests was made at a joint press conference with NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas, District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro and members of the NOPD’s First District.
Members of the gang are also accused of distributing cocaine and marijuana in an area roughly bounded by North Broad, Esplanade, North Claiborne and Orleans Avenue, according to police.
The D-Block gang previously dealt heroin and ecstasy. Members charged with conspiring to sell narcotics in furtherance of gang activities.
Cannizzaro said he is prosecuting the men under Louisiana’s racketeering statute.
