The U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force has arrested a Pensacola man wanted in Fort Lauderdale and Escambia County after hours of negotiations during a standoff Tuesday night.
The man, Jimmy Eugene Suarez, 30, is said to be affiliated with the Gangster Disciples, a gang that originated in the South Side of Chicago.
About 7 p.m. Tuesday, the Sheriff’s Office and the Task Force received information that Suarez was in a house on the 6000 Block of Myrtle Hill Circle in Pensacola.
Deputies, a K-9 officer and Task Force members from the Escambia Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement responded to that location and spotted a vehicle that Suarez was reported to have been driving at the residence.
Shortly after investigators verified that Suarez was in the home, they learned that Suarez’s mother and two young children were also in the home.
During the standoff, Suarez reportedly made threats to shoot law enforcement officers and himself if they tried to arrest him.
Task Force investigators attempted ordering Suarez out of the residence to surrender peacefully for over two hours.
At about 10:30 p.m. a relative assisted the officers by negotiating with Suarez on a cell phone until Suarez finally walked out the front door and was taken into custody without further incident.
The other occupants at the residence were not harmed.
Suarez is wanted by the U.S. Marshals in Ft. Lauderdale on a warrant for violating his supervised release from a 2004 arrest when he was convicted of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and was sentenced to 72 months in federal prison and five years of supervised release.
Suarez is also wanted in Escambia County for Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon causing Bodily Harm or Disability. There is reportedly a pending warrant with the Sheriff’s Office for Aggravated Battery as well.
Suarez was transported to Escambia County Jail and booked.
