BARTOW, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say 24-year-old Santana Perez used an online rap video to recruit members for his Polk County gang.
A judge on Monday sent him to prison for a year, followed by two years of house arrest.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested Perez in October as part ‘Operation Rap It Up.’ Officials say it marks the first time Polk County detectives have used a Florida law that allows people to be charged for promoting gang activity.
Perez reached a deal with prosecutors, agreeing to plead guilty to a number of charges, including using electronic communication to further gang activity and gang recruiting.
Conditions of his house arrest require him to shut down his website, cover up his tattoos while in public and have no contact with gang members.
