Police are searching for the husband of a woman found stabbed to death in a bathtub still wearing her wedding dress on Sunday. Arnoldo Jimenez, 30, and Estrella Carrera, 26, were married on Friday, two days later police found her body in her Chicago apartment. Jimenez has not been seen since and police issued an arrest warrant on Tuesday. Carrera, a mother of two, was found around 3:30pm on Sunday in the 7800 block of South Rutherford Avenue, in the Burbank area of Chicago, according to police. Carrera’s body was discovered after her sister became alarmed when she could not contact her and asked police to conduct a well-being check at the home, officials said. When police called at her third-floor home, she was found with multiple stab wounds in an empty bathtub. There were no signs of forced entry into Carrera’s apartment, according to investigators. Following their City Hall wedding ceremony, the newlyweds celebrated with friends and family renting a limo and then going on to a nightclub. The pair were last seen around 4am on Saturday morning, said officials. Jiminez was last known to be driving a black, four-door 2006 Maserati with Illinois license plate L641441. Police declared the death a homicide on Monday after autopsy results confirmed she died from stab wounds. She was due to pick up her two children – her nine-year-old daughter and two-year-old son- from a family member on Saturday afternoon but did not show up, according to the Chicago Tribune. Her cousin Sandy Lopez said Jimenez was the father of her youngest child and it was a quick wedding. They had been in an on-off relationship for three years. A spokeswoman for the Cook County Clerk’s office said that Estrella did not yet have a marriage certificate on file but had applied for a marriage license on May 2. Lopez said Estrella called her on Friday to invite her to a party but didn’t mention that it was a wedding party. She told the Chicago Tribune: ‘She didn’t tell anybody. She didn’t want to tell me she had gotten married, but she sounded happy.’ She said she personally did not approve of the marriage or the relationship but was not speaking for the rest of her family. ‘He’s just a person who had problems,’ she said. ‘She was a beautiful mother, person, sister. Relatives say Carrera was a Spanish language translator for a welfare agency. She just moved to the area about two months ago, neighbors told CW33. Neighbor Jason Tokarczyk, 24, told the Chicago Tribune she was quiet and generally kept to herself. He said he frequently saw her with her son but was surprised to hear she had married. ‘I’ve never seen her with a dude…I figured she was a single mom,’ said Mr Tokarczyk. ‘She was quiet as a mouse. ‘I was shocked out of my mind to hear something had happened to her.’ Another neighbor said police were searching all around the area in dumpsters and garbage cans for a weapon but came up with nothing. Another local resident described the 26-year-old as ‘pleasant’ but said she was relatively unknown. Burbank police were releasing few details but said the death was being investigated by the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force. Police are calling it an isolated incident stemming from a domestic situation, but did not say whether anyone was in custody as of Monday.

A woman stabbed the father of her children several times on Sunday evening when he gave her a cheap mother’s day present that she did not like, according to police. Paige Parkerson, 20, from Jefferson County, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of her live-in boyfriend Clifton JR Barkin, 22. Police were called to the house by his mother Evetta Wright, shortly after she got a phone call from Parkerson allegedly confessing to the crime. She told the Houston Chronicle: ‘Paige told me she killed JR, that he was dead.’ Mrs Wright had just dropped her son off at the house at 11.30pm on Sunday and that was after taking him to Wal-Mart to buy flowers and a Mother’s Day card for Paige. Barkin, 22, was stabbed several times and died just after midnight in the backyard of his yellow rental house. Mrs Wright said she believes Parkerson expected a more expensive gift, such as jewelry. The couple’s two sons were asleep at home during the incident. Both are now with relatives. She is being held at Jefferson County Jail on $75,000 bond.

A woman shot and killed her husband because he made an obscene gesture at her, according to police. Tracey Grissom, 30, from Northport, Alabama, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of her husband Hunter Daniel Grissom, 28. Sheriff Ted Sexton says the couple had a history of domestic violence. According to the arrest warrant, Grissom was driving to work when she saw her ex-husband at a boat landing. She stopped to take a photo of him for litigation related to their divorce. Sheriff Sexton says several witnesses watched as the man made an obscene gesture and the woman opened fire around 8am yesterday morning. Authorities say the woman called 911 after using all her ammunition and told them she shot her ex-husband. Hunter Grissom was previously charged with first degree rape, first degree sodomy, unlawful imprisonment and other drug-related charges, Sergeant Andy Norris with the Tuscaloosa Sheriff’s Office said. Tracey Grissom was the alleged victim in the rape and sodomy charges, according to Tuscaloosa County District Attorney Tommy Smith. According to WSFA Tracey Grissom told police she was raped and sodomized by Hunter Grissom in November 2010. She reported that he bound her legs with his belt, dragged her from their closet into their master bedroom and sexually assaulted her. Tracey told police she was then knocked unconscious on the floor of their bathroom and didn’t wake up until the next morning. She went to the hospital for treatment following the alleged attack, and paperwork shows she had a gash on her head, bruises, bind marks on her feet and writing on her arm. Court records show the couple have a four-year-old daughter together.

The mutilated bodies “scattered in a pool of blood”—some with their hands and feet “hacked off,” according to the Associated Press—were discovered by local authorities on the edge of the town of San Juan on a road that connects Monterrey to the Texas border.

The bodies were thought to have been dumped there by a drug cartel, authorities said. A welcome sign near the killing field was filled with graffiti with the message, “100% Zeta.” Zetas is one of the two largest drug cartels in Mexico. The other is the Sinaloa Cartel. “This continues to be violence between criminal groups,” Jorge Domene, a state security spokesman, said in a news conference on Sunday. “This is not an attack against the civilian population.” But the escalating violence between the two cartels has resulted in a recent rash of symbolic slayings. On April 17, according to the AP, mutilated bodies of 14 men were left in a minivan in downtown Nuevo Laredo. On May 5, the bodies of 23 people were found, some hanging from a bridge and others decapitated and dumped near city hall. On May 9, 18 dismembered bodies were discovered outside Guadalajara, Mexico’s second-largest city.

Nuevo Laredo and Monterrey are considered Zetas territory, while Guadalajara has been controlled by the Sinaloa Cartel. In September, a Sinaloa drug gang dumped 35 bodies in Veracruz, Mexico. In August, a Zetas attack on a Monterrey casino left 52 dead. Domene said Sunday’s victims—43 men and 6 women—would be hard to identify because of “the lack of heads, hands and feet.”

Mayra Gonzalez, 32, gave birth to a baby boy six weeks ago and told investigators that the father is her eldest daughter’s boyfriend – adding that she was still in love with him. Orange County prosecutors have charged the Santa Ana woman with six felony counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and two felony counts of oral copulation of a minor. Investigators say Gonzalez had an ongoing sexual relationship with the teenager, who is half her age, during a six-month period ending in December. The suspect is accused of having sex with the boy six times between last July and December 24. Gonzalez would allegedly sneak round to the boy’s home while his parents were away. The teenager lives in the same apartment complex as Gonzalez. Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said that people in the neighborhood knew that the affair was going on. ‘Apparently, it was continuously happening until people in the neighborhood saw it was going on,’ Bertagna told CBS Los Angeles. ‘They confronted the victim in this case, he confessed to the fact that it was happening,’ he added. If convicted, Gonzalez could be sentenced to nearly eight years in prison and ordered to register as a sex offender. She’s in jail pending arraignment Friday with bail set at $20,000.

18 year old sets her cheating ex-boyfriends bed on fire while he was sleeping

An 18-year-old girl has been charged with attempted murder after she sent her ex-boyfriend’s bed on fire while he was sleeping. Jacqueline Rivera is alleged to have poured gasoline on the bed after breaking into the home. Prosecutors said she had been told her ex had cheated on her and had carried out the revenge attack. Her ex-boyfriend woke up at his home in Redwood City, California, to find his bed on fire. He screamed for his father who managed to put the flames out with a garden hose. The boyfriend, who has not been named, suffered minor burns on his arms and hands. Police said Rivera, who had fled from the scene, later turned up at the ex-boyfriend’s home to talk ‘about their relationship’. According to prosecutors Rivera and the 21 year old had dated for several months. She later discovered that her boyfriend had cheated on her. Rivera first tried to talk with her ex after knocking on his bedroom window at 2am, but was sent away. She returned an hour later said District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe but was again dismissed. Around 5.45am Wagstaffe said the boyfriend woke up to find his bed in flames. The victim later told authorities he did not alert police or fire because he believed Rivera was responsible but didn’t think he could prove it, Wagstaffe said. He also said a plastic bottle left near the bed smelled of gasoline, Wagstaffe said. Two weeks after the bed burning incident he received a text message from a friend of Rivera who said she was responsible. The friend contacted police and Rivera was arrested at her home. Rivera was charged with attempted murder, arson and residential burglary. She did not enter a plea when appearing in court and bail was set at $500,000. Rivera faces 10 to 15 years in jail if convicted.

London, May 9 — Nine members of a gang – eight Pakistanis and one Afghan – have been sentenced to jail for a combined 77 years by a British court for the sexual abuse and rape of up to 50 white girls, a media report said. The gang plied teenagers with alcohol before abusing them in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, the Daily Mail reported. As many as 47 girls were given alcohol, gifts and money before being passed around to have sex with several men a day, several times a week, the report said. At least one victim was forced to have sex with 20 men in one night when she was drunk, police said. Two became pregnant as a result of the ordeal. One of them was 13 and had an abortion. The ringleader, a 59-year-old who was not named, was jailed for 19 years for conspiracy, rape, aiding and abetting a rape, sexual assault and trafficking for sexual exploitation. Kabeer Hassan, 25, was jailed for nine years for rape and three years, concurrently, for conspiracy. Abdul Aziz, 41, was sentenced to nine years for conspiracy and nine years, concurrently, for trafficking for sexual exploitation. Abdul Rauf, 43, was jailed for six years for conspiracy and six years, concurrently, for trafficking for sexual exploitation. Mohammed Sajid, 35, was sentenced to 12 years for rape, six years for conspiracy, one year for trafficking and six years, all concurrent, for sexual activity with a child. He will be deported back to Pakistan following the conclusion of his sentence. Adil Khan, 42, was given eight years for conspiracy and eight years, concurrently, for trafficking for sexual exploitation. He fathered a child from a 13-year-old victim. Mohammed Amin, 45, was sentenced to five years for conspiracy and 12 months, concurrently, for sexual assault. Abdul Qayyum, 44, was jailed for five years for conspiracy. Hamid Safi, 22, was jailed for four years for conspiracy and one year, concurrently, for trafficking. He will be deported back to Afghanistan following his sentence. Former Labour MP for Keighley Ann Cryer said the authorities had ignored complaints about the accused because they were afraid of being called racist.

Carlotta Brett-Pierce was emotionless when the jury proclaimed her guilty of her daughter Marchella’s death, and such a punishment did not even stop her from giving the judge some attitude when asked if she understood the sentence. I heard what you said,’ the 32-year-old mother said. The month-long trial in a Brooklyn court room finished quickly as the New York Post reports that the jury only required one hour to deliberate. Marchella was a fighter. She found hard to survive, fought hard to live and she lost her fight to her mother,’ prosecutor Jacqueline Kagan said in her closing argument to the jurors. Now, you fight for her. When Marchella Brett-Pierce was found, she was tied to her Sponge Bob SquarePants bed, had been beaten, starved and drugged. Prosecutors say she had dozens of marks and open wounds on her tiny body which was so emaciated, every rib could be seen. During the trial, Brett-Pierce’s answers painted a ghastly picture of their home life. Brett-Pierce said of her daughter near the time of her September 2010 death: ‘To me, at the time, it didn’t look bad.’ Brett-Pierce said that her daughter lost weight by running around in the heat and sustained the bruises from falling in the stairway. The verdict has not come back for Marchella’s grandmother, who was being tried for manslaughter alongside Brett-Pierce. The unrepentant Brett-Pierce will be sentenced on June 7. Throughout the trial, her lawyers switched between disproving the prosecutions tales of horrific beatings and arguing that Brett-Pierce was an overwhelmed mother with a sick daughter that she didn’t know how to care for. Marchella spent the first three-and-a-half years of her life in hospital after she was born prematurely with severe breathing difficulties. Her mother admitted on the stand that in the seven months she was in her care, she never took the four-year-old to a pediatrician. A prosecutor showed the mother a doctor’s note indicating that her youngest boy weighed 18 pounds at nine months — roughly the same weight as four-year-old Marchella when she died, according to the New York Daily News. She told the court she fed her daughter ‘potato chips, fried chicken and cheese doodles’, but an autopsy recorded that only a single corn kernel was found in her body, along with a high level of antihistamines.

Marchella should have been on a specialized diet and fed through a tube, which prosecutors say the mother totally ignored, instead feeding her junk food. During questioning she denied certain things she had already told police and called Marchella ‘my baby’ as opposed to ‘that b***h’ – which she was heard calling her in a recorded jail conversation played for the jury saying: ‘That b***h wasn’t that f***ing light. When she was released from hospital seven months before her death, she weighed 26lbs- a stark contrast from her final weight of 18.9 pounds.

A babysitter faces 30 years behind bars after she admitted broadcasting a sex attack on a 5-year-old girl to other alleged predators using the live video-chat program Skype on her iPhone. Jennifer Mahoney, 33, of Manalapan, New Jersey, pleaded guilty in US District Court Wednesday to the sexual exploitation of a child that took place on at least two separate occasions in her home. ‘She cannot believe what’s happening to her. She’s upset with herself,’ Mahoney’s defense lawyer, Herbert Ellis, said of his client to NJ.com after her court hearing that presented her in a red prison jumpsuit and chain around her waist. She’s numb,’ he said of the woman whose teeth were described as chattering and who wiped tears from her face. She faces between 15 and 30 years in prison when she is sentenced Aug. 22, and will have to pay restitution to the victim. She had been charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of a child. As part of the plea, Mahoney agreed 30 years is the appropriate sentence, although the judge will have the final say. She would be under supervised release for anywhere between five years and life after her sentence is completed. She also agreed not to appeal. Mahoney has been in custody since December after prosecutors said three pornographic videos showing assaults on the child were found on the computer of Robert Ramos Jr. of Austin, Texas. Mahoney admitted to sending the video to Ramos, whom she believed lived in Arizona, and one other individual. Ramos was charged with possession of child pornography and sexual exploitation of minors. Prosecutors in Texas say he set up seven fake Facebook accounts to solicit teenage girls to send him nude photos and videos of themselves engaged in sex acts. Following an interview and search of her home last December, Mahoney admitted to FBI agents of sexually assaulting the girl and streaming the assault live over a video chat service on the Internet, ‘on two occasions in August or September 2011,’ according to the criminal complaint. In one video obtained by authorities, Mahoney can be seen bathing the girl in a tub, instructing the girl to bend over before inappropriately touching her. ‘The girl says “like a mermaid?” The adult responds “like a mermaid sweetheart,” according to the criminal complaint filed in January. She also admitted to abusing the girl on another occasion, recording the abuse on an iPhone camera and emailing the video to at least one other person. Finally, Mahoney admitted to viewing other videos of child sexual abuse streamed to her using a video chat service. ‘This horrible crime is a stark example of how harmful child pornography is, and how its young victims bear not just the physical and emotional scars of violent sexual assault, but lifelong trauma as others repeatedly watch,’ U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman said in a statement. ‘Those like Mahoney, who create and feed the market, perpetuate unimaginable suffering for the children they abuse.’

A dog owner was arrested after he broke his puppy’s front two legs with a sledgehammer. Lyman Kenneth Morkunas was arrested on suspicion of felony animal abuse last Friday. Friends of the man brought the dog to a veterinarian when he refused to help the animal after the sustained beating. Morkunas had reportedly bragged about using a 16-pound hammer to break up a fight between the puppy and an older dog in Mesa, Arizona. The dog’s two front legs were severely broken and had multiple puncture wounds, Brandon Jones, spokesman for the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said. It was believed one of the dog’s legs would have to be amputated due to infection because Morkunas had not taken the puppy to be treated in enough time. An animal rescue charity PAWS was caring for the dog because the owner had no money to pay for his pet’s hospital care. Morkunas was arrested following a traffic stop in Mesa, 20 miles east of Phoenix. He was booked into Fourth Avenue jailed but released shortly afterwards. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.
